Historically the town of Arkhangelsk was created as the port of Russia on the

Arkhangelsk - is the port of all-year-round navigation. The port of
Arkhangelsk is the gate to the Arctic. It's just the beginning of the Northern
sea route. The further development of shipping along the Northern sea route must
take into consideration the possibilities of the port, which may become the
basic, as it has shorter exit to railroad network. These railroads are used for
the carriages along the transsibirian main line and transport corridor "North-South".
The specialists of sea transport of different countries pay greater attention
to the possibility of cargo transportation along the Northern sea route from
Europe to the markets of South-Eastern Asia.
The port of Arkhangelsk is constantly connected by active liner service with
the ports of Western Europe. Line container vessels of NSC connect Arkhangelsk
by regular shipping with the ports of Italy and Northern Europe. Regularity of
approaches is every 10 - 1 4 days.
