The Arkhangelsk Port Authority has announced the 2003 winter
navigation closed. On May 12, 2003, the Chief of the Arkhangelsk
Port Authority Anatoly Bannikov signed order N69 to this effect. As
the port water area is clear of ice, the winter navigation at the
port is considered closed w.e.f. 12 p.m. May 11, 2003. The summer
navigation opened at 0 a.m. on May 12.

Seamen note that it was difficult and heavy for navigation.
Nevertheless in opinion of agent companies such as
"Inflot-Arkhangelsk", "SOLMAR", "Boreal Shipping" the Ice Breaking
Operations Control Center of the Maritime and Port Authority of
Arkhangelsk (IBOCC) has insured optimum employment of the available
ice-breaking fleet. The agent companies agree that due to this
vessels delays have been minimized both in the White Sea and in the
port.
Agents mark efficient and effective operation of the control center,
in particular work of the head of the center - deputy of the Harbour
Master G. F. Bogdanov, his deputy A.G. Melehov and senior government
inspector V.A. Zasyadkin.
The only wish that the agents have is to have available "Kapitan
Dranitsyn" linear ice-breaker in the port of Arkhangelsk. This issue
remain burning as the port requires the ice-breaker for regular work
in the White Sea in the direction of Arkhangelsk during complete
winter navigation period. |
