The port of Arkhangelsk was founded in 1584 and along with it there was
founded the first Marine Customs in Russia. In XVI - XVII centuries the
Arkhangelsk port was the center of foreign trade as well as the town of Russian
and international fairs.
Within the years of the Second World War the Customs people formalized over
500 vessels entering inwards with military cargoes aboard.
Presently the Arkhangelsk Customs is functioning both as the frontier Marine
and Inland Customs . The outer sea frontier- line of the region stretches for
1200 km. Ten Customs posts have been established to be responsible for Customs
formalities.
Under control of the Customs there are 5 sea ports, the international airport
named "Arkhangelsk",he cosmodrome of "Plesetsk" and the center of nuclear
shipbuilding - the town of Severodvinsk.
To arrange the Customs operations with outward and inward cargoes there were
8 bonded warehouses of temporary storage registered in the port of Arkhangelsk
only.
The Arkhangelsk area is an export - orientated region which fact has been
predetermined by the traditional structure of industrial production, by the
developed timber engineering complex, oil extraction industry, by the developed
system of cargo flowing and consumer market as well. Our industrial enterprises
export products of their output to over 80 countries of the world.
